About this board game

Autobahn is an economic strategy game for 1–4 players, played in about 150 minutes, about building Germany’s motorway system from the end of World War II to the present day.

As a director within the BundesAutobahn Organisation, you manage and develop the German Federal Highway System across three periods. The end of the second period, in 1990, brings Unification and opens opportunities to extend the network into eastern Germany.

Building roads is only part of your responsibility. You must also facilitate the transport of goods to neighbouring countries and construct petrol stations to benefit from the traffic created by the expanding network.

• Develop the German motorway system across three periods of time.
• Transport goods to neighbouring countries and construct petrol stations.
• Gain administration board seats that can increase your budget or provide end-game victory points.
• Use cards to take actions on one of the seven main Autobahns.

As you contribute to the network, you gain seats on the administration boards of each highway. These positions increase your budget at the start of each period, while your board members can later advance to more prestigious seats within the Bundesautobahn building that provide victory points at the end of the game.

Every contribution builds your reputation and gives you access to new departments and scoring opportunities. Plan ahead to improve your efficiency and align these opportunities with your chosen route to victory.

In Autobahn, timing matters. The cards in your hand let you act on the seven main Autobahns, but you must carefully plan your actions and use your hand effectively before collecting your cards back.
