About this board game
Azhanti High Lightning is a square-and-counter wargame of close-action combat between individuals aboard a large military spaceship, designed for 2–16 players with an approximately 60-minute play time.
Presented as a supplement to Traveler, similar to Snapshot, the game focuses on personal combat in the confined setting of a starship. Counters represent individual people or animals, while the game covers the weapons and personal abilities that can reasonably be expected aboard a spaceship.
Each turn represents 15 seconds, and every square covers 1.5 meters. This scale places attention on immediate action and player decisions, as tactics and strategies are left to the players.
- Close-action combat aboard a large military spaceship
- Square-and-counter gameplay with counters for individuals or animals
- 15-second turns and 1.5-meter squares
- A variety of provided scenarios, plus the opportunity to generate many more
Azhanti High Lightning includes a variety of scenarios to explore, while its components support the creation of many additional situations. This gives the game a framework for both ready-to-play encounters and player-generated scenarios.
First released in 1980, Azhanti High Lightning offers a focused science-fiction combat experience built around personal abilities, available weapons, spatial awareness, and direct player input. Its compact time and distance scales define a tense tactical setting within the larger Traveler game system.
