About this board game

Baron Voodoo is a strategic dice game for 2–4 players, with play time of about 45 minutes, in which you capture souls without rolling the dice. You play as a Loa, a voodoo god competing to replace Baron Samedi as the new god of death.

On your turn, move one of your colored dice to catch another die. This central action opens up several tactical choices. You can pay one skull to change the face of a die, apply the power shown on its face, or spend two skulls to take another turn.

You can also validate a combo by placing dice onto the spirit world of your player board, increasing your score. Choosing when to capture dice, use their powers, extend your turn, or secure a combo gives each decision added weight.

  • Move your dice to capture opposing dice.
  • Spend skulls to alter die faces or gain an extra turn.
  • Use die-face powers and validate combos on your spirit world.
  • Activate your Loa’s special power for free at the beginning or end of your turn.

Loa powers add another layer of interaction. At the beginning or end of your turn, you may use your own special power for free, or pay one skull to use another player’s power. During the game, catching enough of the special white game elements can allow you to become Baron Samedi, letting you use all powers for free.

The game ends when a player reaches the required score of 18, 15, or 12 points, depending on the number of players. Then all dice move to the spirit world, where majorities in each color are checked to determine who becomes the new Baron Samedi. In Baron Voodoo, careful positioning, resource spending, and timing are essential to claim the night.
