About this expansion
Barrage: The Colorado Connection is an expansion for Barrage for 2–4 players, with a listed play time of 120 minutes. It introduces a dedicated Colorado map and a new bridge-building mechanic.
On this map, rivers flow through deep canyons that create clear physical separations between regions. Bridges built on the crests of dams make it easier to connect productive settlements across those regions. However, a dam with a bridge cannot be elevated for the rest of the game, so each construction decision demands careful consideration.
The Colorado map adds two important types of locations:
- Bridge Construction Sites, positioned on the left edge of the Mountains and Plains Areas and on the right edge of the Hills Area.
- Productive Settlements, with four in the Mountains Area, three in the Hills Area, and three in the Plains Area.
Productive Settlements function as new action spaces. To activate one, you must place the required number of Engineers and pay a cost in Credits. That cost depends on whether bridges are present along the route from the relevant Construction Site to the settlement you want to activate.
Choosing where to build bridges creates a direct trade-off: they can make routes to settlements easier, but they permanently prevent further elevation of the dam carrying them. Barrage: The Colorado Connection requires the base game Barrage and can also be combined with the Barrage: Leeghwater Project expansion.
