About this board game
Battle for Stalingrad is a two-player, battalion- and company-level simulation of the seven-week 1942 battle for the Russian city on the Volga, with listed playing times ranging from 4 to 15 hours.
The game uses a distinctive system of German action and Soviet reaction to reflect the contrasting command structures and tactics of the opposing forces. German air power, artillery, communications, and command efficiency support an aggressive initiative, while Soviet forces face difficult communications and command pressures.
Players recreate the battle as elements of fourteen German divisions from the Sixth Army and Fourth Panzer Army engage the divisions and brigades of the Soviet 62nd Army. The fighting moves into the built-up areas of Stalingrad, where urban combat becomes central and the Soviet defenders halt the German drive east.
