About this board game

Battlegroup: Rule Book is a tabletop wargame rules system for two players, designed for World War II battles and typically played in around 120 minutes.

This core rulebook explains how to play with 15mm or 20mm miniatures. It covers the essential systems needed to recreate battlefield decisions, including Command and Control, movement, firing, and morale.

Command and Control places difficult tactical decision-making at the heart of the game. Players use a system of Orders to direct their forces, making battlefield choices a central part of each engagement.

The firing rules use a distinctive two-tier system. Area fire and Aimed Fire give players different ways to engage opposing units, while pinning enemy forces can be just as important as destroying them.

Morale is shaped by the innovative Battle Rating counters system. These counters ensure that no two games play exactly the same, adding variation to the unfolding battle without changing the core rules.

  • Rules for World War II tabletop battles
  • Command and Control based on Orders
  • Movement, Area fire, and Aimed Fire rules
  • Morale using Battle Rating counters

To play Battlegroup: Rule Book, you also need a collection of wargames miniatures, a wargames table, an opponent, and one Battlegroup Theatre supplement. These supplements provide the army lists, battlefield details, and period-specific character needed for particular theatres and periods of the war.
