About this board game

Battles in the East 1: Sandomierz Offensive and Bagration Stopped is a two-player World War II Eastern Front game with an approximately 240-minute playing time. Released in 2023, it presents two battles from 1944 using a shared system based on the evolution of classic Eastern Front designs.

The volume includes Bagration Stopped, set around Warsaw from 27 July to 20 August 1944. Players recreate the struggle as German forces assemble a defensive line along the Vistula while the Soviet 2nd Tank Army and 1st Belorussian Front attempt to isolate Warsaw and push toward the Baltic. The scenario features the armored thrust and counter-thrust of the Vistula plain, including the unexpected arrival of IV SS Panzer Corps.

Sandomierz Offensive covers the Vistula Bridgehead from 28 July to 20 August 1944. The Red Army seeks to exploit a gap between the German 1st Panzer and 4th Panzer armies, cross the Vistula, and advance toward Southern Poland. German forces delay the offensive while drawing mechanized reserves for a counterattack that includes the first use of King Tigers in action.

The system uses unit integrity bonuses for Soviet Corps and other formations, reflecting increasing Soviet cohesion and decreasing German cohesion as the war progresses. HQ units provide combat support and supply advantages to corresponding units within range, while standardized scales make comparisons across the series easier.
