About this board game

BattleTech Compendium: The Rules of Warfare is a 1994 combat rulebook for 2–6 players, with games lasting about 120 minutes. Set in the year 3056, it provides rules for simulating conflicts between BattleMechs, vehicles, and infantry across the BattleTech universe.

The Successor States of the Inner Sphere wage endless wars against one another and the invading Clans. These conflicts are fought by towering BattleMechs—30-foot humanoid machines carrying enough firepower to destroy entire cities—making every engagement part of a larger struggle across the Known universe.

Created to celebrate BattleTech’s tenth anniversary, The Rules of Warfare revises and streamlines material from BattleTech, 3rd Edition, CityTech, 2nd Edition, and the original BattleTech Compendium. It serves as an overarching guide to combat in the 31st century.

  • Rules for BattleMech, vehicle, and infantry conflicts
  • Rules for miniatures play
  • A concise history of the BattleTech universe and its major figures
  • Several new BattleMech and OmniMech designs
  • Full-color illustrations

Three English editions were released simultaneously in celebration of the game’s tenth anniversary. This compendium was also the first overarching BattleTech rules collection to remove Land-Air ‘Mechs from the standard ruleset and to omit AeroTech rules, which were revised and published separately as AeroTech 2.

Whether used to explore the setting’s major factions or to resolve battles involving towering machines, BattleTech Compendium: The Rules of Warfare brings the essential ground-combat rules of the era together in one focused volume.
