About this board game

Beaches for the Brave: A Solitaire Wargame is a one-player dice placement and allocation game that takes about 15 minutes to play. It offers a light, accessible representation of Allied beach landings during World War Two.

Each landing is small in scale, representing perhaps one or two boats arriving at specific sections of a beach. The situations and events are loosely based on what happened during actual landings in Normandy and on Pacific islands, while keeping the rules quick and easy to approach.

Across the game’s 12 beaches, you will encounter a range of historical settings. The selection includes famous locations such as:

  • Utah, Gold, Juno, Omaha, and Sword
  • Pointe du Hoc
  • Iwo Jima and Tarawa

Beaches for the Brave uses six or seven standard dice, along with a pencil and eraser or roughly a dozen basic tokens. Dice placement and allocation form the core of play, giving the game a simple structure while presenting difficult conditions and enemy resistance.

Although it is not intended to be a complex simulation, the game aims to evoke the pressure of a challenging landing in a concise format. Its rules are light and its play time is short, but the conditions can still make every attempt a tough time out there.
