About this board game

Blockers! is a tile-placement game for 2–5 players, played in about 40 minutes, where the goal is to finish with the fewest groups of tiles on the board.

Each player begins a turn with five tiles. Choose one tile and place it on an open space of the 9×9 grid, then draw another tile to replace it. Every space can accept one of three legal tile types: a letter, a number, or the item representing the 3×3 sector in which that space is located.

Tiles belonging to the same player form groups on the board. Because the final score is based on the number of groups rather than simply the number of tiles, each placement can affect how your pieces connect and remain together.

  • Play on a 9×9 grid divided into 3×3 sectors.
  • Use letters, numbers, or sector items to make legal placements.
  • Place one tile and draw a replacement every turn.
  • Capture opposing tiles when the placement is legal and preserves your group.

An opponent’s tile may be captured by replacing it with a legal tile, but only when removing that tile does not split one of your groups into more than one group. This restriction makes captures a careful choice: taking a tile can help reduce an opponent’s presence while potentially damaging your own position.

When the game ends, the player with the fewest groups wins. If players tie for the fewest groups, the victory goes to the player who captured the fewest opponents’ tiles. In Blockers!, connecting your tiles and choosing when not to capture are both central to the final result.
