About this board game

Blue & Gray II: Four Civil War Battles is a two-player American Civil War hex wargame with an estimated play time of 120 minutes. Released in 1975, it is a follow-up to SPI’s Blue & Gray introductory American Civil War game.

This edition brings together four scenarios spanning key confrontations from December 1862 through May 1864. Each scenario presents a distinct historical battle, giving players a focused way to explore multiple moments of the American Civil War within one game.

  • Fredericksburg: The Union Repulsed — December 13, 1862
  • Hooker and Lee: The Battle of Chancellorsville — May 2–3, 1863
  • Chattanooga: Gateway to Victory — November 24–25, 1863
  • Battle of the Wilderness: Gaining the Initiative — May 5–6, 1864

The four included battles cover a broad sequence of Civil War engagements, from Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville to Chattanooga and the Wilderness. Their individual titles highlight the historical character of each scenario, including repulsion, initiative, and the gateway to victory.

Designed for two players, Blue & Gray II: Four Civil War Battles offers a concentrated historical wargaming experience rather than a single extended campaign. Its introductory hex-wargame format and clearly defined battle scenarios make it a focused entry in the Blue & Gray series.
