About this board game

Brutal Kingdom is a 30-minute card game for 3–4 players, where character cards create a shifting struggle for influence. The King is dead—or perhaps the Queen is—and it can be difficult to know what everyone is planning until the round ends.

At the beginning of each round, every player holds four character cards. On your turn, play one card in front of you and follow its instructions. The characters introduce a tangled web of possible actions, leaving the table to wonder who is preparing a move, who has already acted, and who may be waiting for the right moment.

Some cards let you act against an opponent and bring an end to the round’s influence. However, these actions carry a serious risk: you may fall victim to your opponent in the process. Careful timing matters as you decide when to commit a character and when to wait.

• The bishop’s poison may have been touched, but its target is uncertain.
• The abbot could be the intended victim—or the poison may still be waiting to be used.
• The witch adds another unresolved threat to the unfolding situation.
• The executioner waits for the next job.

With its compact card-driven turns and uncertain character interactions, Brutal Kingdom keeps the outcome open until the final moments. Every played card can change the round’s influence, while the hidden intentions surrounding the King, Queen, and other characters make it hard to tell who will have the greatest impact when everything ends.
