About this board game

Builders of Blankenburg is a town-building board game for 2–5 players, with games lasting around 90 minutes. Set in 1123, it places you among ambitious builders seeking fame and fortune as a new count’s settlement grows.

Each player takes on a persona with a unique benefit, then begins with basic resources and a small amount of silver. Every structure can earn prestige, but only buildings that meet the demands of Blankenburg’s citizens provide the silver needed to bid for and purchase more resources.

Each turn follows four distinct phases:

• Bidding: Compete for resources, the primary way to expand your options.
• Building: Construct structures and, occasionally, demolish them.
• Income: Gain silver from the structures you own.
• Marketplace: Purchase plans and resources.

The growing citizen track reveals which structures the townspeople currently demand, helping players judge where to invest. It also signals the end of the game when the town becomes full. However, events and visitors can disrupt even the best-laid plans.

Blankenburg is divided into four districts, each with limited space. At the end of the game, players can earn bonuses by controlling more of a district than their opponents. The game also ends if there are no plots left on which to build.

With bidding, construction, income, marketplace purchases, district competition, and changing citizen demands, Builders of Blankenburg challenges you to balance immediate opportunities with long-term prestige. The player with the greatest prestige at the end is declared the winner.
