About this board game

Bunte Runde is an abstract game for 2–6 players that takes about 15 minutes. Designed for both children and adults, it combines simple movement with careful collection and changing scoring opportunities.

Choose between 36 wooden pieces or 25 picture tiles according to the players’ ages. Mix the selected components and arrange them in a circle, then place the game figure on any piece or tile. The small gold coins and the large gold coin begin in the center.

On each turn, move the figure one, two, or three spaces clockwise. Take the piece or tile beneath it and place it face up in front of you, where everyone can see it. The figure stays in the newly empty space, creating a constantly changing route around the circle.

  • With the wooden pieces, scoring is triggered when the last piece of a color or shape is taken.
  • Players receive a small gold coin for each matching piece they have collected.
  • With picture tiles, scoring is based on colors or animals, using five gold coins.
  • If a piece completes both a color and a shape, both categories score.

When the final piece of a color and shape is taken together, the scoring is doubled: six small coins, or five when using picture tiles, are distributed for the relevant color and again for the relevant shape or animal. The game ends when all 36 or 25 small coins have been distributed, and the player with the most coins wins.

With its attractive wooden components, accessible rules, and age-based component choice, Bunte Runde offers a straightforward family experience with room for adult variants. It is an adaptation of “Wheel of History” from New Games in Old Rome.
