About this expansion
Cacao: Chocolatl is a modular expansion for 2–4 players, designed for games of about 60 minutes. It adds four modules to the Cacao base game, and each module can be used individually or combined with any of the others.
The chocolate module introduces three chocolate maker tiles, three chocolate markets, and twenty wooden chocolate markers. At chocolate maker tiles, cacao can be turned into chocolate. Chocolate can then be sold for a high price, but only at special markets.
The huts module adds twelve double-sided huts that players can acquire during the game. These huts provide their owners with special powers or award extra points when specific conditions are fulfilled.
- Irrigation module: Three special plantations let players harvest a large amount of cacao fruits, provided they pay with water.
- Maps module: A preview board displays two additional tiles near the draw pile. Each player receives two map tiles at the beginning of the game.
With the maps module, spending a map tile also lets a player choose from the preview board when filling spaces on the board. This adds another way to make tile choices while using the available map tiles.
Cacao: Chocolatl offers a flexible way to vary the base game. Players can select only the chocolate, huts, irrigation, or maps module, or combine several modules for a broader set of additions and decisions.
