About this board game

Caesar: Conquest of Gaul is a historical wargame for 1–4 players, with games lasting about 240 minutes, covering six battles from Caesar’s campaigns between 58 and 52 BC.

Command eight of Rome’s vaunted legions, including Caesar’s favored Xth Legion, or lead ten barbarian tribes armed with swords and throwing axes. Each Roman legion includes artillery, auxiliares, and hired cavalry, while special rules give the Gauls distinctive Barbarian Impetuosity and Ferocity.

The scenarios portray a wide range of confrontations. Defend against the Helvetii at Bibracte, outmaneuver Ariovistus and the Germans on the Rhine, survive the sudden attack of the Nervii at the Sabis, and fight the Amorican tribes in the Bay of Biscay. You can also attempt Caesar’s invasion of Britannia or learn the system through the Lutetia scenario, a smaller battle around modern Paris.

  • Land and naval warfare: Use war galleys, sail ships, and transports in a preview of the series’ Naval Warfare system.
  • Streamlined command: A simplified command system reflects the smaller Roman armies and tribal leadership structures.
  • Distinctive tactics: Apply Hit and Run rules, revised artillery mechanics, and the feared German cavalry’s combination of light horse and light infantry.
  • Flexible play: The system is designed for solitaire play and supports one to four players.

With a scale of 20 minutes per turn, 75 yards per hex, and 100–150 men per size point, Caesar: Conquest of Gaul presents a detailed tabletop interpretation of Rome’s campaigns. Expansion modules add battles from the Claudian invasion of Britannia, Caesar’s defeat at Gergovia, and Queen Boudicca’s rebellion.
