Caesar XL: The Roman Civil War 50–44 BC is a historical conflict game for 1–2 players, with sessions lasting about 45 minutes. It recreates the waning days of the Roman Republic, when Julius Caesar stood ready to cross the Rubicon and Pompey Magnus commanded the forces loyal to him.

Players lead the rival Populares and Optimates, factions seeking a champion who can determine Rome’s future. Will the Senate and Republic be preserved, or will a Dictator be called forth to address Rome’s problems—perhaps even becoming king?

Legions and great Leaders contest the territories of Rome as each side pursues ultimate domination. Every unit represents either one Legion of roughly 5,000–10,000 troops or one Leader, while each turn covers approximately six months.

Caesar XL is designed with layered rules that let players begin quickly and add depth as they learn. The introductory Bronze Rules cover the essentials, while the Silver Rules provide additional knowledge for experienced conquerors preparing to stage a triumph through Rome.
