About this expansion
Camel Up: The Referee Camel is a 2015 expansion for 2–8 players, with a play time of 30 minutes. It adds a Referee Camel to the race track, creating a new way to disrupt the unusual habit of camels stacking up and carrying one another.
The game is played as usual, but at the beginning of each Leg, the player to the right of the player who owns the Leg Starting Player marker places the Referee Camel on any free space of the race track. Its position remains important until a Camel unit reaches that space.
When a Camel unit ends its movement on the Referee Camel’s space, every camel in that unit must unstack and line up next to the others on the same space. The camels are taken from top to bottom and placed from left to right, preserving their order. As a result, the camel that was on top becomes the leading camel of the former unit.
- The Referee Camel is placed at the start of each Leg.
- It can be placed on any free race-track space.
- A camel unit landing there must unstack and form a line.
- Afterward, the Referee Camel is removed until the next Leg.
Once the unit has been unstacked—or a single camel has landed on the space—the Referee Camel is placed next to the game board. It returns to the race at the beginning of the following Leg, ready to interrupt another stack.
This compact addition can be combined with the Camel Up base game or with the Supercup expansion. Camel Up: The Referee Camel focuses on one clear rule change while fitting directly into the existing race structure.
