About this board game

Carcassonne: South Seas is a tile-laying board game for 2–5 players that takes about 35 minutes to play. It keeps the familiar foundation of the original Carcassonne while introducing a tropical setting and a new way to score points.

Each round, players add a tile to the growing playing area. They may also place a meeple on the tile to claim ownership of something, creating the central choice of when and where to commit their tokens.

Instead of building the cities, roads, and farms found in the original game, players in Carcassonne: South Seas use their meeples to gather valuable island goods. The landscape provides three types of resources:

• Bananas
• Shellfish
• Fish

Once goods have been gathered, players ship them to traders in exchange for points. This gives the familiar tile-placement structure a distinct economic focus, as the resources on the developing board become the foundation for scoring.

Carcassonne: South Seas is the first game in the Carcassonne Around the World series, which was later followed by Carcassonne: Gold Rush and Carcassonne: Amazonas. Released in 2013, it offers a South Seas interpretation of the classic tile-laying formula while remaining centered on adding tiles, placing meeples, collecting goods, and trading for points.
