About this board game

Castle of Magic is a board game for 4–6 players with an approximately 90-minute playing time, first released in 1991. In the depths of Castle Bondi, a monster has devoured three rulers and taken the secrets of three lost Items of Power with them.

You and your mysterious companions enter the castle to recover the Crown, Amulet, and Scepter. Each player belongs to one of three Wizard Guilds—the Eagle Lords, Wolf Mages, or Dragon Masters—and some companions may share your Guild while others may belong to one you oppose.

Every player also vies for one of three countries: Marus, Kida, or Sorrell. Discover which Item of Power must be won to rule your country, while searching the castle for secrets and avoiding its dangers.

  • Three Wizard Guilds: Eagle Lords, Wolf Mages, and Dragon Masters
  • Three countries: Marus, Kida, and Sorrell
  • Three Items of Power: the Crown, Amulet, and Scepter
  • Eight possible outcomes for the Ritual Spell, including some that lead to death

The ultimate challenge is learning how to cast the Ritual Spell. Its result may banish the monster forever or make it a wizard’s slave, and the outcome must work to your advantage. Along the way, uncover secrets about the other players and their devious goals.

Cooperation may be possible: find other wizards you can work with in order to win together. With its shifting alliances, hidden intentions, and dangerous magical stakes, Castle of Magic turns every companion into a potential ally—or opponent. The game was expanded by The Castle Cursed and The Fall of Castle Bondi.
