About this board game
Chez Geek is a light, humorous card game for 2–5 players that takes about 60 minutes. Players become roommates trying to get through life with as little work as possible while building enough Slack to reach their personal goal.
At the start, each player receives a Job card showing their free time, income, special ability, and Slack goal, along with five Life cards. The space in front of each player is their Room, where people, pets, activities, and things are played.
Each turn begins by drawing up to six Life cards, followed by variable rolls for certain Jobs and attempts to deal with uninvited people. Players can call green Person cards into their Room, play pets such as Cats and Dogs, and use their available free time for actions or shopping.
- Red Activity cards use free time and may add Slack.
- Blue Thing cards represent shopping and must fit within the player’s income.
- Orange Whenever cards can be played at any time.
- TV Activities and other cards can cancel cards or discard cards already in play.
Income and free time can be changed by Whenever cards, while other effects may alter Slack, modify cards, or force a player to change Jobs and therefore Slack goals. Players must also manage their hands at the end of each turn, although they may discard down to one card—or play their entire hand.
In Chez Geek, every roommate is racing toward a different balance of comfort, chaos, and idleness. The first player whose Slack total equals or exceeds their Slack goal wins.
