About this board game
Chickamauga: The Last Victory, 20 September 1863 is a two-player grand-tactical simulation of the battle between the Union Army of the Cumberland and the Confederate Army of the Tennessee, with an approximate play time of 120 minutes.
The battle took place around Chickamauga Creek, a tributary of the Tennessee River, in September 1863. With a scale of 400 meters per hex, the game presents the engagement through a focused movement-and-combat system designed to make positioning and the consequences of combat matter.
- Sequential Player Turns
- Rigid zones of control
- Retreat and advance after combat
- Surrounding enemy forces to cut off retreat
- A 17 x 22-inch, three-color map and 100 counters
A key feature of Chickamauga is Attack Effectiveness. When attacking units receive an “Attacker Retreat” combat result, they become ineffective for the rest of the day. They may still defend normally, but they cannot make further attacks until a Night turn removes the restriction.
This rule makes low-odds attacks especially dangerous. A series of “what the heck” attacks can quickly leave an army unable to press the offensive, rewarding careful judgment instead of reckless assaults. The game is one of four titles in the Blue & Gray Quadrigame set and includes an exclusive rules folder, while a Standard rules folder supplies rules shared by all four games.
Released in 1975, Chickamauga combines a compact component set with a sharp emphasis on timing, control, and retreat routes. Each combat decision can affect not only the immediate position, but also an army’s ability to attack for the remainder of the day.
