About this board game

Churchill is a political strategy game for 1–3 players that takes about 300 minutes, casting players as Churchill, Roosevelt, or Stalin during the final years of World War II.

This is not a conventional wargame. It is a contest of cooperation and competition in which ten conferences determine Allied leadership, military priorities, and the shape of the postwar world. Players use staff cards featuring historical personages to influence issues at the conference table, moving them toward their own side and contesting the influence of their rivals.

  • Negotiate over directed offensives, production priorities, political activity, clandestine operations, theater leadership, and strategic warfare.
  • Use each leader’s special authority, while facing possible consequences such as Roosevelt’s replacement by Harry Truman, Churchill missing a conference after a heart attack, or a Stalinist mini-purge.
  • Build political networks, support governments in exile, and undermine the influence of opposing powers.
  • Advance Allied fronts across theaters including Western, Eastern, Mediterranean, Arctic, CBI, SW Pacific, Central Pacific, and Far East.

After each conference, controlled issues are implemented through clandestine operations, political activity, and military offensives. Fronts can advance toward Germany, Italy, and Japan, while naval support may be needed for amphibious operations. The atomic bomb can potentially force Japan’s surrender without a direct invasion.

The game ends at Potsdam. The player whose forces collectively have greater control over the surrendered Axis powers wins the peace. With scenarios designed for shorter or later-starting games, plus two-player and solitaire options, Churchill focuses on the deals, rivalries, and shifting influence behind Allied victory.
