About this board game

City of Iron: Second Edition is a strategy board game for 2–4 players, with games lasting about 120 minutes. In a world of machines, magic, and money, each player leads a small nation competing to build an empire and control the continent.

Choose one of four rival nations, each with its own identity: industrious humans, toad engineers, scholarly Cresarians, or clever hogmen. Develop your nation by producing goods such as machine parts and bottled demons, gaining wealth, researching steam-age technology, and recruiting mercenaries.

Expansion is an important part of your plans. Establish new cities by building schooners or airships to reach distant lands and flying islands. However, every city has limited capacity, forcing difficult decisions about which structures to keep and which to demolish as you construct more advanced buildings.

Your route to success can also be shaped by contract cards and regions. Rather than competing for the same end-game bonuses, players in City of Iron: Second Edition have different final scoring goals based on these elements, giving each nation its own priorities.

This second edition revises several systems from the original game:

• Expert cards feature new iconography and rebalanced effects.
• The auction for player order is simplified, and the pay track for going later is removed.
• A bonus coin replaces the pirates.
• The timing of scoring rounds is changed.
