City of the Big Shoulders: Burden of Destiny is an expansion for 2–4 players that builds on the original game’s gameplay and takes about 180 minutes to play. Released in 2019, it brings five new and unique companies to your Chicago empire.

With this expansion, you can make your mark across Chicago with companies such as Arnold, Schwinn & Co., Oscar Mayer, and Quaker Oats. These additions give the original game new companies to include as you grow and develop your empire.

Burden of Destiny is designed to expand the City of the Big Shoulders experience rather than stand alone. The expansion cannot be played on its own, so the original game is required for play.

Alongside its new companies, the expansion upgrades the game’s physical components. It features premium card-stock money and wooden tokens that represent both the five new companies and the companies from the base game.
