About this expansion
CO₂: The Arctic Expansion is a 2012 board game for 2–5 players, with an approximately 90-minute play time. It brings the Arctic into the clean-energy challenge of CO₂, where players lead energy companies responding to government requests for new, green power plants.
Each company aims to help stop the increase of pollution while meeting the rising demand for sustainable energy—and, of course, profiting from its work. Building clean power plants requires the right combination of expertise, money, and resources, making each project part of a wider global response.
The expansion highlights the Arctic, an area especially vulnerable to global warming. Melting sea ice has made the region’s changing climate increasingly apparent, while climate models predict much greater warming in the Arctic than the global average.

- The Arctic Company Goal card
Energy summits promote global awareness and give companies a chance to share some of their expertise while learning more from others. These shared efforts connect individual company decisions with the broader need for sustainable energy.
CO₂: The Arctic Expansion presents climate change as a collective challenge: companies may compete while working toward cleaner power and reduced pollution. If pollution is not stopped, the outcome is game over for everyone.
