About this board game

Cóatl: The Card Game is a 2022 game for 1–4 players that takes about 30 minutes, challenging players to create the most beautiful and valuable feathered serpent.

A temple honoring the gods has been built in the heart of an Aztec city, and its walls await paintings of serpents. Players compete to become the empire’s most celebrated Cóatl painter by assembling a serpent from a Head, a Tail, and eight Body cards.

During each turn, play two cards to create one of the available patterns shown on the Prophecy cards. Once you complete a pattern, claim its Prophecy card and display it in front of you. If another player has already claimed that card, completing the same pattern lets you steal it from them.

  • Construct a Cóatl from a Head, Tail, and eight Body cards.
  • Play two cards each turn to complete Prophecy patterns.
  • Score more points by creating the same pattern multiple times.
  • Eventually protect Prophecy cards so they can no longer be stolen.
  • Fulfill requirements on Temple cards for additional victory points.

The game lasts five rounds, giving players repeated opportunities to claim, reclaim, and protect valuable Prophecies. When the last player completes their Cóatl, everyone totals their victory points, including any bonuses earned from Temple cards. The player with the most points wins.

Cóatl: The Card Game also includes a solo mode for playing alone. It comes with the Golden Feathers expansion, which is compatible with the Cóatl base game.
