About this board game

Congo: Adventures in the Heart of Africa is an adventure game for 2–4 players, with games lasting around 240 minutes. Played with miniatures, it unfolds in an unexplored, fantastical, wild, dangerous, and enchanted Africa inspired by newspaper accounts from the end of the 19th century.

Each player commands a column of around 30 figures, including colourful characters. You might lead a scientific expedition, command a ferocious tribe, guide slave traffickers from Zanzibar, or take charge of a warband of Azandes defending their culture and lands.

At the heart of the game are the adventures reported by Le Bulletin de la Société Géographique. These stories send your column into dramatic encounters and perilous journeys, where perseverance may be as important as courage.

  • Meet a giant ape protected by fierce guardians.
  • Attempt to rescue a princess captured by Zanzibari slavers.
  • Cross rivers teeming with crocodiles.
  • Seek the source of the Congo River itself.

The wilderness is never a safe place. Wild animals and witchcraft add further danger, while many other surprises await beyond the next stretch of jungle or river.

With its miniature-filled columns, colourful factions, and expedition-driven adventures, Congo creates a vivid journey into a fictionalized African wilderness. Every game offers the chance to face a different blend of hostile environments, dangerous inhabitants, and extraordinary discoveries.
