About this board game
Congo Merc: The Congo, 1964 is a solitaire game for one player, designed for about 30 minutes of play, in which you command an elite task force during the Congo’s 1960s conflicts.
Organize your force using Mission Cards, which provide objectives and the resources available for assembling your commandos. Missions range from hostage rescue to tracking down Cuban cadre, sending you on breakneck advances into enemy territory to seize critical targets and return safely to your home base.
Your task force can draw on a variety of unit types, each supporting the mission in a different way. Available forces include jeep-mounted commandos, light armor, sappers, air support, paratroopers, and many others.
- A map covering the entire Congo
- Mission Cards for objectives and task-force resources
- Event Cards triggered at certain points on the map
- Quasi-tactical combat using tactical superiority and firepower
- Special rules for CIA reinforcements, air transport, and leaders
As you maneuver through the country, Event Cards can introduce unexpected complications, including UN intervention and ambushes by enemy fighters. The opposition ranges from Simba rebels to Cuban forces dispatched by Fidel Castro, creating a dangerous environment for every advance.
Combat uses a quasi-tactical procedure in which both tactical superiority and firepower matter. With its combination of mission planning, movement, changing events, and the need to make it back to base, Congo Merc places the decisions of a commando operation in a compact solitaire format.
