About this board game
Constantinopolis is a resource management, economy, and trade board game for 2–5 players, with an average play time of about 90 minutes. Set in the 6th century A.D., it places you in Constantinople during the reign of Emperor Iustinianus, commonly known as Justinian.
As an ambitious merchant, you compete with rival entrepreneurs to become the most successful trader in one of the East Roman, or Byzantine, Empire’s greatest commercial centers. Constantinople’s position on the shore of the Marmara Sea, at the entrance to the Bosporus, made it an important harbor and a thriving hub for trade and exports.
Your fame is measured by your ability to develop your business and manage your opportunities. Complete delivery contracts, establish viable trade, and expand your trade district as you pursue the most renown. Success depends on balancing your economic plans with the demands of your contracts.
- Resource management and economic decision-making
- Trade and delivery contracts
- Expansion of your trade district
- Competition for the most renown
With intuitive rules and a moderate game length of 1 to 2 hours, Constantinopolis aims to combine accessibility with strategic depth. Its setting draws on the high period of Constantinople, when the city’s growing commerce offered local businesspeople opportunities to increase their riches.
The game’s tiles use Latin, consistent with the era of Justinian. This provides a historical reference while also making the game entirely language independent, allowing its commercial challenge to remain accessible to players at the table.
