About this board game

Copperdale is a solo print-and-play, half-sheet flip-and-write game for one player, with sessions lasting about 20 minutes. Using a pencil, the game board, and a standard deck of playing cards, you manage and advance a growing town and its inhabitants over twelve monthly turns.

Each month, reveal three cards from the top of the deck, one at a time. Assign them in any order to the board’s Economy, Infrastructure, and Growth segments, then resolve those cards in that sequence. Both the card’s suit and value matter, and its assigned segment determines which spaces you fill.

  • Develop the town across three connected areas: Economy, Infrastructure, and Growth.
  • Use card suits, values, and placement to fill spaces on the board.
  • Work toward medals earned for the improvements made during the game.
  • Face light rogue-like elements and press-your-luck decisions as the deck is revealed.

Every filled space can lead to more medals at the end of the game. You may learn occupations, expand the city’s borders, and pursue other improvements, but the next card is never guaranteed to be better than the last.

That uncertainty gives Copperdale its distinctive challenge: plan around the cards available while deciding how much to commit to each part of the town. After twelve months, assess the improvements you have made and earn the medals your development has unlocked.
