About this board game

Count of the Nine Estates is a solo city-building game for 1 player, played in about 30 minutes with just 18 cards. Across two separate eras, you will develop a small county into a powerful economic and cultural center while pursuing the highest possible score.

Nine Estate cards provide your major building targets, including City Walls, a Cathedral, a Castle, and more. The remaining nine cards form the Structures deck, combining resources with structures that can be built during play.

Search your land for the resources needed to construct basic structures. These structures can then provide more resources, helping you develop the estates that will define your county. You will play through the Structures deck in multiple rounds, choosing how to use your limited nearby resources and which opportunities to pursue.

  • Build structures to gain resources and victory points.
  • Develop one or more estates from a selection of major targets.
  • Balance strategic choices across two eras.
  • Score points from estates, certain structures, and your construction achievements.

Victory points come from the values shown on Estate cards and some Structure cards, plus 1 point for each structure built. Duplicate structures provide an additional 1 point each, while every round played costs 2 points, making efficient progress especially important.

As a reimplementation of Count of Nine, Count of the Nine Estates focuses on a freer, more strategic experience. Rather than following a fixed path toward a major structure, you must make meaningful decisions during the match as you turn scarce resources into an increasingly powerful county and seek the favor of the King.
