About this board game
Covalence: A Molecule Building Game is a cooperative deduction game for 2–4 players that plays in about 40 minutes. One player becomes the Knower, while the other players take on the role of Builders and work together to reconstruct secret organic compounds.
The Knower has knowledge of the compounds the team must identify. Builders do not know the answers, so they must carefully interpret the clues provided and use them to determine what each secret compound is.
Every clue matters. The Builders must cooperatively make use of a limited number of clues as they attempt to construct their compounds before that supply runs out. Success depends on communicating effectively, combining deductions, and turning the Knower’s information into accurate reconstructions.
- Cooperative gameplay: Builders work together toward a shared objective.
- Asymmetric roles: The Knower has the secret information, while the Builders deduce the compounds.
- Clue management: The team must use a limited number of clues wisely.
- Molecule reconstruction: Players aim to accurately reconstruct secret organic compounds.
With its distinct Knower-and-Builders structure, Covalence creates a focused puzzle in which shared reasoning is essential. The Knower provides the information, but the Builders must collectively interpret it and determine the correct compounds before time—or the available clues—runs out.
Released in 2016, Covalence offers a compact cooperative challenge centered on deduction, communication, and the careful use of limited clues.
