About this expansion

Cytosis: Virus Expansion is an expansion for 2–5 players that adds new virus threats and antibody-based challenges to the game, with play taking about 90 minutes.

The expansion introduces three viral strains: Influenza, Rhino Virus, and Ebola. During the game, players may spend ATP to build up their antibodies against each of these viruses, creating a resource-based way to prepare for future attacks.

When a virus attacks, every player rolls a number of antibody dice based on their current level of health. Each player then adds the result of the dice roll to the antibodies they have accumulated throughout the game.

  • Adds Influenza, Rhino Virus, and Ebola to the base game.
  • Lets players pay ATP to develop antibodies against the three viral strains.
  • Uses health levels to determine the number of antibody dice rolled during an attack.
  • Rewards the strongest antibody response with resources while penalizing the weakest response.

After the rolls are resolved, the player with the highest antibody response gains resources. The player with the weakest antibody response loses resources, making each virus attack a contest with meaningful consequences for everyone at the table.

Cytosis: Virus Expansion offers a focused addition to the Cytosis experience, centered on preparation, health, antibody development, and the changing threat posed by viral attacks. Released in 2017, it gives players three distinct strains to contend with while preserving the central importance of ATP and resources.
