About this board game

Dameo is a two-player Checkers-like board game released in 2000, with a typical play time of 40 minutes. Its distinctive movement system uses straight and diagonal forward movement for men, creating a swift and sharp style of play.

Men move forward either straight or diagonally. A line of men can also advance together as a group, moving straight or diagonally forward. Since men may move over other men of their own colour, positions can change quickly and group movement becomes an important part of the game.

Captures in Dameo are made orthogonally only. The game enforces maximum capture, making the available capture options central to each position. This rule adds a precise constraint to the otherwise flexible movement of men and groups.

When men become kings, their movement changes significantly. Kings move like a queen in Chess, while still capturing orthogonally. They can also make captures at long range, giving kings a distinctive role compared with ordinary men.

  • Players: 2
  • Play time: 40 minutes
  • Movement: Men move straight or diagonally forward, and lines can advance as groups
  • Captures: Orthogonal only, with maximum capture enforced
  • Kings: Queen-like movement with long-range orthogonal captures

By combining linear movement, group advances, mandatory maximum captures, and powerful kings, Dameo offers a faster-moving alternative to traditional Checkers. Its rules focus play on coordinated lines, changing formations, and carefully timed captures.
