About this board game

Dark Future is a two-player apocalyptic future car-racing and combat game with an approximately 60-minute playing time, released in 1988.

Players build armed vehicles using a point-based system, then take them onto winding roads where racing and fighting are both part of the experience. The changing road layout gives each game a different setting for high-speed competition and confrontation.

Similar in style to Auto-Duel or Car Wars, Dark Future presents those ideas in a simpler form with a distinctive Games Workshop style. Its focus is on creating a vehicle within the available point system and putting that design to the test on the road.

  • Designed for 2 players
  • Approximately 60 minutes of play time
  • Build armed vehicles with a point-based system
  • Race or fight on winding roads
  • Roads change from one game to the next

Each session can therefore combine the challenge of vehicle construction with the uncertainty of a changing course. Players may compete through the roads, fight it out, or bring both elements together in an apocalyptic future contest.

Dark Future is not related to R. Talsorian’s Cyberpunk role-playing game. Instead, it stands as its own board game of armed vehicles, mutable roads, racing, and combat, offering a straightforward take on the car-battle genre.
