Dark Is the Night is a two-player game of hunt-or-be-hunted that plays in about 15 minutes. One player becomes a hunter defending a forest camp, while the other takes the role of a monster moving secretly through the darkness.

In the middle of the night, a guttural growl awakens the hunter. The campfire provides a small area of light, and the hunter can move through the spaces surrounding it while trying to locate the threat beyond the glow.

• Hunter: Move through the lighted spaces around the campfire and rely on keen wits and a crossbow.
• Monster: Move secretly through the darkness and remain a deadly presence just outside the light.
• Shared objective: Eliminate the opposing player before daybreak.

With only limited tools at their disposal, both players must make the most of every opportunity. The hunter must stay alert and use sharp aim, while the monster uses the darkness to approach unseen.

Dark Is the Night creates a focused confrontation between visibility and concealment. The lighted spaces offer the hunter a measure of safety and control, but the darkness beyond the campfire keeps the monster hidden and the danger close.

Released in 2017, Dark Is the Night is designed exclusively for two players. Its short play time makes it a compact choice for a quick, atmospheric contest of survival before dawn.
