Darkest Night

About this board game

Darkest Night is a fully cooperative board game for 1–4 players, with an approximately 150-minute playing time, set in a kingdom broken beneath a necromancer’s shadow.

Each player becomes one of the kingdom’s last heroes. Choose from nine playable characters, each with a unique set of special abilities, then search the realm for new powers, equipment, keys, and artifacts that can strengthen your party and help restore hope.

The knight is a powerful warrior, the prince can rally and inspire the people, and the scholar excels at locating and restoring treasures from the past. Abilities can help heroes fight the undead, evade the necromancer’s forces, or accelerate searches for important items and artifacts.

While the heroes prepare, the necromancer steadily builds his power base. Ravenous undead roam the kingdom, blights spread across the land, and the enemy becomes more effective as the game progresses. If an area becomes too blighted, it is overrun, sending the spillover toward the monastery.

• Gather three holy relics and return them to the monastery to perform a ritual that can break the necromancer’s power.
• Confront the necromancer directly, while accounting for his willingness to sacrifice minions to save himself.
• Protect the monastery before it is overrun and the kingdom is swallowed in darkness.

Every round represents approximately several days to a week in this guerilla war over a small kingdom. With a complexity rating of 4.5 out of 9 and a solitaire suitability rating of 9 out of 9, Darkest Night supports strategic planning whether heroes stand together or one player guides the struggle alone.
