De Kolonisten van de Lage Landen is a standalone version of Catan for 3–5 players, with an approximate playing time of 75 minutes. Set on a map of the Netherlands and Flanders, it offers a regional take on the familiar Catan experience.

Players choose their colors from five flag colors: black, yellow, red, white, and blue. The game’s player pieces are made of wood rather than plastic, while the uniform monument markers are also wooden, giving the components a distinctive material and appearance.

The setting also brings a special production feature to the game. Cities near the sea produce fish chips, echoing the fish-production element found in The Fishermen of Catan and adding a maritime detail to this Low Countries edition.
