About this board game

Defending America: Intercepting the Amerika Bombers, 1947-48 is a solitaire tactical game for one player, with sessions listed at approximately 120 minutes. You command an actual or experimental interceptor aircraft in an alternate-history World War II scenario, defending the mainland United States from approaching Amerika Bombers.

Each turn represents one weekly sortie. Take off as enemy bombers near, attempt to intercept them before they can attack targets on the mainland, and face combat against one of six historically modelled—but hypothetical—Amerika Bombers. Your missions may launch from a U.S. carrier or a land base, depending on your current location.

After the engagement, landing operations bring another challenge, with weather affecting the procedure. Once the sortie ends, check for awards and Experience points, then decide whether to spend that experience on new skills or request an available interceptor upgrade. The technology track and pilot progression help build a continuing narrative across the campaign.

  • Conduct repeated sorties while pursuing bomber kills.
  • Improve your pilot with purchasable skills and rise in rank through promotion.
  • Earn awards, adopt more advanced interceptor types, and prepare to stop atomic attacks.
  • Continue until the pilot is shot down and killed or reaches the end of March 1948.

The game emphasizes the personal story of a pilot striving to become the Scourge of the Amerika Bombers. Though designed primarily as a solitaire experience, Defending America also includes cooperative and competitive multiplayer options, plus an option to link it with Amerika Bomber: Evil Queen of the Skies.
