About this board game

Derby is a competitive card game for 2–6 players, playable in about 30 minutes, in which horse race gamblers compete to build the most profitable score.

Every player secretly bets on a horse, then uses their cards to influence the race. These cards determine the value of bets and help the different horses advance through their lanes, creating a contest of timing, information, and clever card handling.

During each race, players try to guide their chosen horse into the position that offers the greatest reward. Your goal is not simply to predict the winner: you must also make the best use of the information available in your hand while competing with the other gamblers.

• Secret betting: Choose a horse privately and work to improve its chances.
• Card-driven racing: Use cards to determine bet values and advance horses in their lanes.
• Multiple scoring opportunities: Take prizes from the common chip pool and gain your private bet card when your horse wins.

The game unfolds over five races. After every race, players collect the points earned from their results, including prizes from the shared chip pool and the private bet card associated with a winning horse.

Because everyone is handling limited information while trying to shape the same race, each decision can affect both your own prospects and those of your rivals. Derby rewards players who can turn their cards into the most valuable outcome.

When all five races are complete, the player with the most victory points wins. With its focus on secret bets, card management, horse movement, and changing race positions, Derby offers a compact competition for gamblers seeking the highest final score.
