About this board game

Die Schlacht der Dinosaurier is a dinosaur army battle game for 2–4 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. First released in 1993, it challenges each player to keep more dinosaurs alive than their opponents.

Each player begins by setting up an army of 15 dinosaurs in their designated area. Dinosaurs may be arranged freely within the defined area, but each space can contain only one dinosaur. This open setup lets players decide how to position their forces before the battle begins.

On a turn, the active player must play three action cards from their hand, one after another. If their general has been eliminated, they play two action cards instead. Lava pieces may also be used during a turn, adding another available element to the struggle.

  • Set up 15 dinosaurs in your area.
  • Play three action cards per turn, or two if your general was eliminated.
  • Use lava pieces in addition to your cards.
  • Refill your hand to six cards after resolving your turn.

After cards are used, they go to the discard pile. When the draw pile is empty, the discard pile is reshuffled, keeping cards available throughout the game. Players then draw enough cards to bring their hands back up to six.

The game ends as soon as the first dinosaur army is eliminated. Everyone counts their remaining dinosaurs, and the player with the most is declared the winner. If players are tied, the battle continues until one player has more dinosaurs than every other player.

With its simple objective, card-driven turns, and dinosaur armies competing for survival, Die Schlacht der Dinosaurier offers a focused contest for control and endurance.
