About this board game

Dojo Kun is a 1–4 player board game with a 90-minute play time, in which each player leads a martial arts dojo toward victory in two legendary tournaments.

Choose one of four dojos—Tiger, Crane, Bear, or Cobra—and develop your athletes through training and life experiences. Recruit new talent, purchase training machines, expand your dojo, seek out adventures, and prepare your fighters to become perfect warriors.

The game unfolds across two seasons. Each season includes three preparation turns built around worker placement, giving you time to manage your dojo and improve your athletes. During the season, fighters can also learn special techniques by visiting ancient masters hidden in the central area of the board.

  • Develop athletes and attract new practitioners.
  • Buy training machines and expand your dojo.
  • Discover adventures and learn special techniques.
  • Enter athletes into the White Lotus and Black Lotus Tournaments.

Each season ends with a tournament, where every dojo may send up to two athletes. Empty places are filled by fighters from the fifth dojo, the Skull Dojo. These opponents are managed by the game and can even win the tournament, adding an unpredictable challenge to every contest.

Combat is resolved by rolling custom dice. There are four different dice, each representing a fighting technique, and athletes roll according to their experience level, or Dan. A higher Dan gives an athlete a greater chance of winning a match.

Players who are not fighting can predict the winner before a match to gain prestige. After the second season, the dojo with the most Prestige Points wins Dojo Kun and earns the right to lead the martial arts world.
