About this board game
Donkey Bridge is a storytelling and memory game for 3–6 players, played in about 45 minutes. Players use randomly drawn symbols and objects to create memorable stories that help everyone recall the featured items later.
The game unfolds through two distinct phases. During the Narrative Phase, players build a story together rather than presenting separate stories one player at a time. One player plays a card and tells part of the story, then the next player continues with another card and another contribution.
This shared structure makes every player both a storyteller and an attentive listener. The goal is to create mnemonics that are memorable and fun, giving the group useful connections to the symbols and objects at the center of each story.
- Random prompts: Use drawn symbols and objects as the foundations for stories.
- Collaborative narration: Add one card and one part of the story at a time.
- Recollection Phase: Recall the stories and the objects connected to them.
After the narrative is complete, the Recollection Phase puts players’ listening and memory to the test. Remembering the stories told by others is just as important as contributing strong mnemonics of your own.
Compared with Eselsbrücke, Donkey Bridge removes blocker cards, boards, the thought bubble, and the linen bag. It also has no fixed rounds; its structure is based on the number of players, with the former blocker-card portion removed.
Whoever creates the best mnemonics and listens most carefully to the evolving stories has the best chance of winning. Released in 2022, Donkey Bridge offers a focused social challenge built around imagination, shared narration, and recall.
