Donnerschlag: Escape from Stalingrad is a two-player historical strategy game, released in 2022, with a playing time of approximately 480 minutes. It recreates the December 1942 attempt to relieve the German 6th Army trapped in Stalingrad.

From December 12 to December 23, Unternehmen Wintergewitter—the code name for the relief attack by Heeresgruppe Don—sought to break through to the encircled forces. The Axis formations entered the operation with 50,000 men and 250 tanks, while the Soviet formations were reported to be about three times as strong.

In the game, the Axis side must secretly establish and reach a meeting point. Success depends on coordinating the advance of the relief troops with a breakout from the encirclement, recreating the critical timing represented by the cue “Donnerschlag.” The Soviet side works to impede this outcome and prevent the trapped army from being freed.
