About this board game

Durian is a 2020 board game for 2–7 players that plays in about 20 minutes, set in a busy jungle fruit shop where a rush of orders can lead to trouble.

The shop’s clerks are helping customers without checking the newly arrived inventory. They assume that someone else has already checked it, but the excitement has led them to accept too many orders.

That creates a tense situation. If somebody rings the bell, the shop’s manager gorilla will rush out of the office to investigate. If the manager discovers that orders have been sold beyond the available inventory, the consequences could be frightening.

The jungle fruit shop’s growing crisis is shaped by a few memorable elements:

  • A busy shop filled with customer orders
  • Unverified new inventory
  • A bell that summons the manager gorilla
  • Three gorilla siblings waiting nearby to cause trouble

With its lively setting and looming threat, Durian turns an ordinary day at the fruit shop into a suspenseful situation. Everyone must contend with the possibility that the shop’s orders have gone too far before the manager arrives.

The three gorilla siblings add another mischievous presence to the scene, hanging around and waiting for their chance to cause trouble. Their presence reinforces the playful danger at the heart of the game.

Designed for a quick session, Durian offers a compact jungle-shop story for groups of 2–7 players. It combines bustling customer service, questionable inventory checks, an ominous bell, and the fearsome arrival of a gorilla manager in one memorable fruit-shop scenario.
