About this board game
Eat Poop You Cat is a 3–99-player writing-and-drawing activity that takes about 20 minutes, turning sentences into pictures and pictures back into sentences.
Each player begins with a sheet of paper and a pencil. At the top of the paper, everyone writes a sentence before passing the paper to the player on their left. The next player draws that sentence in the style of Pictionary, folds the paper so only the drawing can be seen, and passes it onward.
The following player studies the drawing and writes the sentence they think it represents. This alternating process continues as the papers travel around the group, with each contribution transforming what came before.
- Write a sentence.
- Draw the sentence you receive.
- Interpret a drawing with a new sentence.
- Continue until the papers return to their original players.
When everyone has their original paper back, the papers are unfolded and the full chains are revealed. The results can be wonderfully unpredictable: a line such as “I am the Walrus, koo-koo-ca-choo” might eventually become “Hitler and I danced the night away in a disco.”
The activity continues until everyone runs out of paper or each paper has received a contribution from everyone, always ending on a sentence. Eat Poop You Cat does not fit BoardGameGeek’s guidelines for what constitutes a game, but remains in its database by popular demand and administrative fiat. The activity inspired games including Telestrations and Mutabo.
