About this board game

EinStein würfelt nicht! is a fast-paced board game for 2 players, with a playing time of about 10 minutes. Played on a 5×5 board, it challenges two opponents to guide numbered stones toward each other’s corner.

Each player controls six stones marked with the numbers 1 through 6. Player 1 begins with their stones in the six fields of the board’s upper-left corner, while Player 2 starts in the six fields of the lower-right corner, facing the opponent diagonally.

On a turn, a player rolls a die. If the stone bearing the rolled number remains on the board, that stone must be moved. If it has already been removed, the player may choose to move the stone with the next higher or next lower number.

  • Player 1 moves one field right, downward, or diagonally down and right.
  • Player 2 moves one field left, upward, or diagonally up and left.
  • Landing on an occupied field removes the stone already there, whether it belongs to the moving player or the opponent.

This movement system makes every roll meaningful while pieces gradually disappear from play. A move can remove one of your own stones as well as an opposing stone, so the board changes quickly during the race.

To win EinStein würfelt nicht!, a player must occupy the opponent’s corner field with one of their playing pieces. A player loses if they have no playing pieces left on the board. The game was released in 2004 and served as the official game accompanying a German Einstein exhibition during Einstein Year 2005.
