About this board game

Emmerlaüs Duel of Mages is a fantasy card game for 2–10 players, with games listed at about 15 minutes. Released in 1996, it combines the feel of a collectible card game with a shared deck rather than collectible distribution.

Each player begins with 50 hit points. During play, losing all your hit points reduces your total to zero or below, and you are considered dead and must leave the game. Players continue until only one mage remains, creating a direct route to victory through survival.

The base game includes a 100-card deck. Its expansions add new cards and greater depth while remaining add-ons: once an expansion is purchased, you have all the cards in that series rather than needing to collect randomized cards.

  • Power, Communion, Abundance, Destiny, Sorcery, and Invocation: six 50-card expansion packs.
  • Allies and Companions: two 25-card expansions that introduce a completely new dimension.
  • A player-elimination system based on hit points, with the final surviving player winning.

The instruction booklet presents Emmerlaüs Duel of Mages as a game of imagination and make-believe, inviting players to picture themselves as great mages of forgotten times. Games can be as quick as 10 minutes or last up to an hour, depending on player decisions and skill at rolling the dice.
