About this board game

Empire Engine is a board game for 2–4 players that plays in around 30 minutes. Each player commands a mighty empire powered by rotating gears, competing to score the most points and restore the Great Engine.

The world of Mekannis was once united beneath the guidance of the Great Engine, an enormous thinking machine built into the planet’s molten heart. After a disastrous act of hubris caused devastating malfunctions, the land was shattered and the Great Engine died. Now four empires struggle for dominance while seeking to fulfill the prophecy and reclaim its ultimate power.

In Empire Engine, players simultaneously select actions for their empires. They may attack, defend, salvage, export, or collect resources. These resources have distinct purposes: goods are prepared for export, soldiers are used to attack opponents, and inventions contribute to scoring.

  • Rotate your engine: Use your gears to turn your empire’s engine.
  • Perform available actions: In each round, carry out the actions shown on the top edges of your engine.
  • Build your score pile: Gather goods, soldiers, and inventions for the final reckoning.

The four available empires each have a distinct history: the honorable Kestrel Dominion, the wealth-driven Nova Centralis, the poisoned Sylphian Commonwealth, and the prophetic Grail Prelacy. Their rivalry unfolds through carefully timed choices and rotating engines.

When the game ends, the player with the most points from goods, soldiers, and inventions in their score pile wins. With simultaneous decisions and a compact playing time, Empire Engine presents a focused contest for control of a broken world.
